Breeding and Training The Best
Amelia Baxter, based in Saint Jo, Texas, strives to breed the best of the best, breeding Champions to high quality, health tested dogs. She believes that temperament, biddability, trainability, drive, nose, health and soundness are mandatory attributes in her breeding program. She wants all of her dogs to be powerful, aggressive and stylish in the field but docile enough to be in the house and on the couch. At Bad Habit Gundogs, we truly think our clients deserve a real deal trial dog or hunting partner who also plays the most important role as the family pet. Her track record speaks for itself, winning the 2024 Hogan Award for Top Professional Handler, several National Placements and wins, several Field Champions and many Phenomenal Gundogs; she believes in her training methods. She doesn’t have a “One Program Fits All” style, instead tailors her training to suit each dog’s individual personality and develop them at their own pace to achieve the highest level possible.

In 2024 Amelia won the Hogan Award for Top Professional Handler by more than double the next competitor, she has also won the 2025 Springer National Open Championship and National Cocker Championship of 2023, took two placements in the 2023 and 2024 Springer National Open and yet another placement in the 2021 Springer National Open, along with achieving the Dan Langhans Award for Weighted High Point Dog in 2020.

Carefully Selected Breeding with Proven Performance in Mind
At Bad Habit Gundogs, we breed for ourselves, only having a litter when we plan on keeping a pup for ourselves. Unlike the majority of breeders in the States, we only breed Field Champion titled bitches. Not only proving our dogs in the field, but in Field Trials all over the country against the best of the best of the breed. This has proved extremely successful in producing and providing Champions, the best quality bird dogs and exceptional companions. Our pups are very well socialized, exposed to various different cover, noises and are well started in crate training before going home. We match personality with the right lifestyles, either family and hunting homes, or competitive Field Trialers. Our 2026 waitlist is full, but we have started the waitlist for our upcoming 2027 Fall litter. If you are interested in getting on our waitlist, please give us a call.
